Learning the Language

Posted by Mani;) on March 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM

This passage is about the language used by doctors and nurses in the medical field and the way that they communicate with patients and others. It talked about how getting new patients are kind of hard to adjust to, or at least that’s what I got from it so they use jargons to make it sound better.

It talked about how they use words to keep the patient as happy as possible. They also talked about the good and bad of using jargons. Doctors use “She boxed last night” which would mean that the patient had died. They also would use “Circling the drain” and they abbreviated it with CTD.

I liked this passage for the fact that doctors really use jargons to kind of foreshadow. Although it has its pros and cons because I feel that they should be straight forward with them but I guess since their job could be so depressing and stressful at points that they try to make the best of it.
