Feminist Critism

Posted by Mani;) on February 10, 2014 at 12:55 AM

This article is basically talking about women rights. It talked about how the definition of feminism varies. One definition the article gave us was the belief that women and men should have equal rights and opportunities for self expression. The article also talked about how diverse feminism is and I could tell because of how dominant men are in some countries. In patriarchal societies women thoughts really does not matter because men dominants them. It also talked about how the feminist critic approaches an artifact and go through a four step process.

Gender roles play a big role in this. The article states that as kids parents give girls and boys different toys, decorate their rooms different colors, assign different household chores according to the sex of the children. Growing up I had an older sister and a younger brother. My brother would always take out the trash and either my sister or I would wash the dishes or clean up the bathroom area. Feminist criticism usually analyzes femininity and masculinity, as said in the article. I think it is because although it should be equal rights it’s a lot of things that men can do that women can‘t do and vice versa.

Overall, this was a great article because it pointed out a lot of key facts that defined feminism. Women has come a long way rights wise. It was a period in life when women couldn’t even vote. Women traditionally were stay at home parents. Their role was to nurse the children at home, clean, and have meals prepared.
